Purpose
The Zer0 Billionaires site presents structured statistical information about global billionaires in a clear, transparent, and auditable format.
It is designed to:
- display source data accurately
- distinguish raw data from derived analysis
- document update cadence
- maintain visible standards of data integrity
This page explains how the site operates.
Data Handling
Raw Data
The dashboard displays source data as provided.
This currently includes:
- total billionaire count
- combined wealth
- gender distribution
- age distribution
- location counts
- industry classifications
Raw values are not modified or reinterpreted.
Derived Metrics
Derived metrics will:
- be clearly labeled as derived
- include documented calculation methods
- identify any assumptions
- be visually distinct from source values
Derived figures will not be presented as source data.
Update Schedule
The dashboard updates automatically on a daily cycle.
The timestamp displayed on the dashboard reflects the most recent successful data retrieval.
Figures reflect source availability at the time of update.
System Integrity
If a scheduled update fails:
- the most recent verified dataset remains visible
- the timestamp reflects the last successful update
- update failures are logged
The system does not substitute missing data with zero values and does not suppress failed updates.
Validation and Verification
Zer0 Billionaires applies internal validation and verification processes to reduce handling errors and maintain display integrity.
Validation
Validation checks are used to confirm that retrieved data is being handled correctly by the system.
This includes checking that:
- data is retrieved in the expected structure
- fields are mapped to the correct dashboard elements
- values are displayed in the correct format
- labels, categories, and timestamps are assigned correctly
- missing or malformed fields do not produce misleading outputs
Validation is concerned with whether the dashboard is processing and presenting data properly. It does not constitute independent verification of the original source material.
Verification
Verification is the scheduled review of Zer0 Billionaires’ own calculations, transformations, and display logic.
This includes:
- rechecking derived calculations against documented methods
- cross-checking displayed values against current source outputs
- reviewing category assignments and labels for consistency
- confirming that update cadence and timestamps are accurate
- conducting periodic common-sense review of outputs to identify obvious anomalies or misleading presentation
Verification is an internal quality-control process. It does not certify the truth of third-party source data and does not imply forensic review of original records.
Review Cadence
Validation occurs as part of routine data handling and update processes.
Verification is conducted on a scheduled basis, including:
- regular review of derived calculations and display logic
- periodic review of active source links and field mappings
- monthly cross-checks of calculation methods, presentation accuracy, and dashboard behaviour
Where a verification review identifies an error in calculation, transformation, classification, or display, the issue will be corrected and the governance record updated where appropriate.
Transparency
Zer0 Billionaires maintains:
- a dedicated Sources page listing all active data providers
- public documentation of update cadence
- version-controlled governance documentation
- disclosure of derived methodology when implemented
Governance revisions are versioned to preserve change history.
Review & Maintenance
Zer0 Billionaires runs periodic operational, editorial, and data-system reviews across the site. High-traffic pages and live data displays receive more frequent attention than static content. Cost assumptions and methodology notes are reviewed when source material updates or when published claims are challenged. Material changes are recorded in the governance log. The review history is public.
Version
Zer0 Billionaires – Governance & Methodology v1.3
Date: 24/04/2026
Waste Event Inclusion Framework
Waste events are included under one of three frameworks: direct billionaire action, billionaire-linked benefit, or Trump administration policy waste. The third category applies because the sitting president is a verified billionaire whose discretionary decisions directly affect public resources. All events require sourced cost figures and characterisation as wasteful by multiple independent sources. Where estimates are used, figures are marked as derived and methodology is documented.
Amendment 1 — Event Scope Definition
(v1.1, March 2026): Appended to the V1 Data Contract, replacing the implicit scope with an explicit three-category inclusion framework.
Changelog: added three-category scope framework to clarify inclusion of government policy waste alongside direct billionaire events.
Amendment 2 — Validation and Verification Framework
(v1.2, April 2026): Appended to the V1 Data Contract to distinguish internal validation and verification processes from source authentication. Establishes validation as system-level checking of structure, field mapping, formatting, labels, timestamps, and display behaviour, and verification as scheduled internal cross-checking of derived calculations, source alignment, categorisation, and presentation logic.
Changelog: added explicit validation and verification framework; clarified that Zer0 Billionaires checks handling, calculation, and display integrity but does not independently authenticate third-party source data; added monthly review cadence for cross-checks and common-sense anomaly review.
Amendment 3 — Review & Maintenance Framework
(v1.3, April 2026): Appended to the V1 Data Contract to establish the public review and maintenance framework. Separates governance standards (this page) from the maintenance record (Governance Log). Introduces the dedicated /governance-log/ page as the append-only evidence layer for review activity.
Changelog: added Review & Maintenance section with public cadence language; created /governance-log/ page; updated version to v1.3.
